Audio Source Selector

If a 5.1 channel reciever was purchased, would it have the 6 RCA inputs for the 6 channels, or is the 5.1 audio trasfered to the reciever differently.

Background info:

My uncle has a DVD player that came with 5.1 surround sound. The DVD player has the 6 outputs via RCA: Front right, front left, Center, Sub, rear right, rear left. They (of course) go to the inputs of the surround sound amp, which then goes out to the speakers. The surround sound amp only has the one source input.

My uncle wants to have everything listed hooked into the surround sound.

DVD Player

VCR

PS2

Satellite receiver

The TV only has coax in, but a RF modulater is already purchased.

I'm also up for some suggestions of what would make this installation possible without spending more then 100 dollars total.

The only way to get 5.1 would be through a digital connection (optical toslink or coax) or through 6 discreet RCA analog inputs. This depends on the year and model of the receiver.

Things like DVD players have 5.1 digital outputs. The PS2 has a optical toslink connection and a lot of satellite boxes do too.

However your TV's, CD players, VCRs will NOT and you'll need to wire them up with RCA's.

Any specific reccomendations on recievers that can be found for less then 100 dollars (on ebay)

That will be hard to find as most DVD players do not have internal sound processing.

I mentioned most DVD players have some form of digital out. The 6 discreet RCAs would be fore something like SACD or DVDA. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

I'm not sure if there is a way for you to get surround sound out of your DVD player unless the new reciever has a 6ch input.
