I went into this car/home audio shop and was looking at 2 13w6's and a JL 1000/1 amp and with a custom box($500) and they wanted to charge me $3000! Will they come down some or what? jl subs and amps are freakin expensive and that better be one hell of a box for 500 bucks i mean **** thats a ton of money for a box

You've obviously only owned prefabs.

You're looking at probably $500 a pop for the W6s, $750 for the 1000/1, custom box and install can esily add up to $1,250. You want JL you pay retail or don't get any warranty support.

A standard fiberglass box usually runs $300-$400. If you want anything ''custom'' or coolness about it, $1000 isn't a far stretch for a finished enclosure.

I'm guessing you've never built a custom fiberglass box, because they take time. Sorry for the prefab comment if I'm actually wrong, but from your comment it sounds like you see a prefab box for $150 and ***** about a $400 glassed box costing too much.

To the original poster:

If you're actually serious about a system and have cash, they will (or should) hook you up with some decent prices for the stuff. Most likely they saw you as the typical car audio shopper that goes in, asks for a price, and leaves with no intentions of going back.
