Audio frequencies

I wonder if I will ever understand this audio business.

I assumed that mid range would play through my front components and bass would be filtered out.

I was gonna have the hpf on the front speakers set at 8ohz

And the lpf on the sub at 8ohz.

Then I saw this:

https://www.teachmeaudio.com/mixing/techniques/audio-spectrum/

It states the bass range runs from 60-250hz. So this means mid ranges play bass.

And It contradicts what I thought that mid ranges up front filtered all bass out

I am obviously not understanding this. I want to understand!

Somebody please take the time to explain.

Thanks

Technically mid bass is 60-250. You have the right idea at 80hz. That’s a good starting point.

In home Audio we let the sub play higher because the room works better.
not trying to bust our balls but what you meand the room works better? ive always cross my mids around 80 in a two way. any lower and your asking for serious BL distortion..

The response in a room is more linear. You don’t have to limit the sub.

Not saying you have to but you can play them up to 250hz

Most of the reason we cross lower in car it to get up front bass. Going to high is bad for resonance.

Ideally we want to largest speaker playing as much low end as possible.

I can cross the Q as high as 150 but then I get a bad noise from the door panels.
