So, after looking at the show your workspace thread, I noticed a few of you had your xbox 360's standing upright. Anyone who has them standing up should lay them down, when they are standing upright, there is nothing to hold the disc in place and it will actually vibrate back and forth which causes it to hit the lens. When it does this, it causes deep circular scratches to your discs.

Just a friendly //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

except for the piece that spins it. And the disk that hold it when the first piece pushes against it to spin it. Well.. I mean, as is in every other cd Elayer Ive seen with no bearings that snap to secure the disk, I may be wrong. But thanks for the tip //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Thats what most people think. But after working at gamestop, unfortunately, for the past year, I've seen tons of people come back with brand new games scratched like that. First question we ask is if they have their 360 standing up, 90% of the time the answer is yes, the other 10% is no, but they moved the system while it was on.

strike 8723465 for microsoft.
They currently have a class action law suit going on over this problem in California

Not to mention the problem with the Christmas shipments of the Arcade units and Pro units. Arcades red ring, pro units cause the circular scratches no matter what

i want to say negative, why? cause there is a small plastic piece that is mounted to the top of the cd drive. the plastic piece holds a tiny magnet ring that when the cd drive is closed it magnetizes itself to another magnet found on the part that spins the cd. that, holds the cd in place. that magnet is pretty strong as well. the reason why disk become scratched up like that is because they either

A. moved the 360 from an upright position and laid it down(while game is running)

B. move the 360 from a laid down position to an upright position(while game is running)\

C. the magnetic ring has come lose from it's position and allows the game to spin freely in the drive.

one downfall of sitting the 360 upright like that is you are constricting the amount of airflow into the 360 which gives you a higher risk of heating up the 360 and causing it to warp the motherboard and rrod. the bottom of the 360 is the only place that allows the most air flow into the 360. the Hard drive on the top reduces the amount. overall. laying it flat is good.
