Nothing Is Promised
My new PC is coming in this weekend. Well I have stuff on this PC that I want on the new one. My Windows is fu(ked and I cannot burn any of the programs over. Cannot restart or it will fail to load. Etc etc....

Is there another way to get all the programs I want over to new one? Like USB flash memory or something?

network. but i wouldnt hook a new install up to a curropted PC

best bet is to put everything in your old PC that you want to keep, on the C drive - NOT IN THE WINDOWS FOLDER OR MY DOCUMENTS! just make a folder called keep right in the C drive, put all your shit there, and then shut down the computer, and install that harddrive in the new computer, scan it for viruses like 20 times with 10 different programs (lol) and then copy it over to your new PC.

anything thats in your windows folder is encoded with a random serial number unique to each install of windows. and if your windows serial is not the same as the serial on the file, you cant access it. by removing it from the windows directory, it strips that serial and the file is normal and unprotected again. at least from my expierence thats what i had to do.

i have a second harddrive that i put all my stuff on. its a good investment and it should only cost you like $40 for 80gb.

Maybe get an external HDD and just transfer all the progs.to there, then when ya get your new box, just transfer all the data from the external to your new

Ok well the HD on my current corrupted POS PC is a new Western Digital 80GB. Im just wanting all my anti-spyware and music off this piece to my new one. (we got the spyware and viruses BEFORE we cleaned the system of everytihng but it still ****ed it over)...but since I dont have that much cant I just get a 1GB Flashmemory and transfer it that way?

my advice is partitioning or multiple hard disks for future setups.

partioning is making a C: and D: drive on the same physical disk. when windows fails, you format C but get to keep all your data that was saved on D:

i had an unstable system where i installed windows twice a month, and yet it never affected my files because they were on another drive. it was just an hour or so that i couldn't use the computer because i had to put windows back on.

you can physically remove the HDD from your current computer, then attach it to the new computer. The connectors are fairly obvious (it fits = correct). it is advisable to put the old disk on as a slave drive (look for jumpers or markings for how to do so), or on the secondary IDE port (see mobo for this). if you fail to do this, the computer may boot off the old drive, which really won't do anything bad, just waste time.

Take the HD out and put it in your new comp as a 2nd HD and see if you can read it. If you can, copy the files you need on to your new HD, then format the old drive so it's not useless anymore.
