Since we have experts of all kinds on here...

My parents just split up after 30 + years. Never married. I know that when common law partners split up, its a 50-50 type thing, but is that in every case? My dad was having an affair for a couple of months before he was caught and within a few days he skipped out of the provience. I have no problem helping her out with mortgage payments etc, as i have before since he has been too lazy to work for a few years, but dont want to if he is entitled to and going to take half of everything.

Thanks for the imput. well, serious imput haha.

Well considering American laws are much different than Canadian laws......

In Canada....they are basically the same boat as being married. Now depending whose name is on the motgage...will depend on what happens with the house. If they are both on it, you are gonna have problems.

Do the free consult with a lawyer. Spend the half hr with one. Write down as much as possible, think up many questions before you go in. Make more notes as you go. Take those notes, and do another free consult at another lawyer. Get some more answers, and whichever lawyer you feel the most comfortable with....use them.

Winterpeg should have lots of lawyers to do free consults with.
