Hey all. I need a little bit of help here. Im new to the whole liscense thing, but not new to the hobby. Id like to purchase a good, but nicely priced starter handgun and get a liscense. No real need for a liscense to carry, unless its required to get it too. I live in Rhode Island, and i dont really know much about the laws. Maybe somone can shine some light for me? Where I need to get started, and a good possible starter handgun?

Thanks guys!

my boy liked his springfield 9mm for his first.

look into sig arms , smith and wesson , springfeild, H&K to name a few quality guns.

as for laws. go to the NRA website and check around there.

a good starter pistol is a S&W sigma series either 9mm or .40 cal. Both have plenty of stopping power, price won't break the bank either.

I personally carry a Glock 31 .357 sig, those cost about 200-250 more than the S&W but a much better gun in my opinion. Mine cost around $520.

Glock f'sure. I have a Glock G22 (.40) and have never had a problem, only fault i find is no active safety. My carry weapon will soon to be a .357 revolver, not sure which yet. If your planning on carrying it, i would personally suggest getting a revolver, you should never have to worry about it going bang. If its jut to fart around at the range, then i would get a Springfield or Glock. JMO of course.

i agree the sigma is a good starter but a big gun if you choose to carrry i had one and NEVER had a jam failure to feed or eject i put atlest 3000-4000 rounds through it

here is my new baby http://kahr.com/PA-1_40sw_pm.html its expensive but **** nice

x2 on going into store.

depending where youre at , some stores have a shooting range in the back and theyll charge you to put so many rounds through it so you can get a feel for it.

if its for home protection, dont skimp on quality ammo. a 9mm has enough stopping power if your shots are placed correctly. hydra-shock ammunition ftw.

my boys springfield cost 350 or 450 used ,iirc.

my other friends glock .40 jammed on him when he was getting his house broken into. so personally id stay away from them.

better quality can be had for the money.

I just took a look at the Sigmas... i definitley like them alot. I think im going to go down to a few shops today and inquire about liscensing. I dont know whats involved with getting a liscense.

i have to ask what kindof ammo he was using? Ive never heard of any problems with a Glock, i mean, there IS a reason that most PDs use them.

lmao.....show me a better gun for the money than glock. Your friend probably never maintained his well or put cheap *** ammo through his or bought cheap *** non glock mags for it. I've put more than 15,000 rounds through my 3 glocks and never had a single jam.

im not sure to be honest.

he said he put out 3 rounds and it jammed. they are great guns, but i wouldnt trust my life with one.

PD's clean theirs every so often. which is a great practice but not everyone does it. they also carry smith & wesson more-so than glocks. thats for a reason.

**** straight. If he was using aftermarket extended mags, then thats the reason, they are crap, atleast for the .40s. You guys would sht if you knew what i paid for mine, but thats cuz im special. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
