I agree what was done 150 years ago did set a whole group of people back. There are plenty of people that have come from that and have more than I will ever have in my life -- and yes there are plenty below me as well. I am all for the worker...anyone who wants to put in the effort deserves good things. I don't agree with the people that put nothing into society and expect something back (note this does not apply to any one group)

The setback is definitely not gone...by any means. If a person is the top of their field - top grades, top honors, etc. They are going to do well for themselves and have nobody to blame regardless of what color they are. I understand different settings make that much more difficult to do though...but there are plenty who come from underprivileged schools/homes that still do wonders with their life.

You are not checking in the right place if you think minorities in the country start out in a better place. Hell, they don't even start out in similarly equipped hospitals. They don't even get simialry nourished mothers. I know of several women of minority race who had to work until the last day to provide income to the family.

Then should we not do what we can to assist those born into less fortunate situations. This is exactly what I mean by apathy. How are you assisting those less fortunate than yourself. I do it by hiring a good number of blacks, paying them well, so they may improve their lives and the lives of their fellow brothers.
