i have an alpine 9857 as my head unit. I was messing with the settings, and found out that if i put BBE on, it's louder. is it safe to use?

Anyways, my main question is this. If i have BBE 3 on(which is the loudest out of the three), it will hit real hard until it gets to volume 23. If i back down the knob to volume 22, it will play that "hard hitting bass" again. but once i touch volume 23, the bass lowers drastically. Anyone got a clue or a reason on why it's doing this... I mean it will eventually get louder when i hit volume 31-35, but why is volume 22 louder than 23,24,25,26? This happened with my 9856 as well.... does this happen to you guys too?

its the n00b protection. good god man do you your gains set atleast? might as well set your stock radio to "jazz" to get more bass //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

all your doing is clipping your amp for more power. bbe= bass boost enhancement i believe

no it means on your headunit your using a "bass booster" without any consideration on your gains. if you want to use it set your gains with that on. other wise. subs will go poof

yeah. i have my gains set by the DMM method. So that means my gains are too high?

if you set the gains with a DMM they should not be too high.... if you did it correctly

i don't think my gains on the amp has anything to do with why the HU acts like that. I just set my gain all the way to the lowest on the amp and i still heard the same problem after volume 22...........

No. LOL. The BBE processing is much more complex than just a bass boost. It actually adds highs and bass. On my premier 860 the settings are from -4 to +4 in increments of 1 and I have mine on -2 or -3. It does add bass but not just bass.

To Ali 1. You're just going to have play with it for a while til you find a setting that suits your listening tastes. Playing your system with BBE processing on the highest setting would be the same as using your EQ with all the adjustment frequencies maxed out. Set that way you're going to make your amp(s) work harder than they are already. Clipping is clipping no matter how you're getting to that point.

sounds like BBE = LOUDNESS on an eclipse deck..but with a modifier so you can adjust it. I'd turn that shit off and use the PEQ to get the results you are looking for, then re-set gains once you've got it tweaked with PEQ settings.

it's probably some protection so people would destroy their subwoofers less... imo, you should only be using the hu's parametric EQ and nothing else for colouring the sound...
i geuss thats why active systems **** balls //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

so it "adds" bass but its not a "bass boost" hmmm. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/up2something.gif.dd110ecf3ae4b76050d87598f2f8de7c.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif
