Are there SQ subs and amps that are clearly winners

Just get the cheapest amps with the most power. Sony, Pyle, Jensen, TIS, come to mind. It doesnt matter what amp you get because they all sound the same. This has been proved by the Richard Clark Challenge. There is absolutely NO reason to waste your money on expensive amps.

This is a common misunderstanding of RC's amplifier watt test. He stated a watt is a watt and has no acoustic signature. He did not state all amplifiers sound the same. His test requires bypassing anything like internal processing, thereby negating any true comparison of products sonically. Simply put, the test is designed to run an amplifier in a manner it would not be operated in for normal use, hence making your correlation between his test and your hypothesis that he meant all amps sound the same, incorrect.

I had a "1000 watt" Pyramid home studio amplifier that supposed to do 1000 watts bridged into 8 ohms but when I took some measurements with a voltmeter the amp only made 158 watts RMS when the clipping light started to flash on the amp.

Rule of thumbs is to check the amp's fuse ratings. a real 1000 watt RMS amp will have at least 100~150 amps worth of fuse.

Done. My PG ZPA0.5 against those, and I also love the PPI art series amps, but the ZPA's were designed w/SQ combined with power w/cost being of little importance.

When they were new cost not important wasnt the case lol they were expensive. And yes it rivals it but I dont know if it exceeds it. Thought I posted again MOST anything. It also is 1000 watts to mine. The old PG MS series were sq too and very nice, i loved mine. I guess I meant against those cheap brands he listed.

OK, the ZPA0.3, that's equal power. What about the original LANZAR Opti series amp??? Those too were great SQ amps.

Yep, gotta love those MS/MPS/M/ZX amps from PG. Their new stuff will surprise you.
