It's nothing but a little electric motor to drive a piston in and out...

Yes, I am, but I heard there are cheaper alternatives. Aren't actuators $100-$200 each?

They're pricey, yes...but they're what you're looking for if you want to move heavy pieces of MDF and other parts of the install.

if it is something light you can use a power antenna. i have never done it, but at one of the local shops the guy was showing me some of their cars in progress, and there was a board over the amps. And he pressed a button on the alarm and the power antennas raised up and you could see the amp rack.
