Are Alternators Universal???

no this isnt the 60s where you could just take parts from one thing and put it on the next

what makes the alternator not compatible? I know I'm probably asking annoying questions but I'm trying to get a late 80s Festiva soon for a build but I don't know if I can find a HO alt thats vehicle-specific for it

the harness wont plug in most likely and the computer wouldnt recognize it

Have you even tried to call the companys to find a HO alt? call excessive amperage and dc power. im not familiar with dc but i know nate at ea can make one for almost any vehicle

Mine isn't even plugged into the harness, so I'm guessing you can use any alt as long as you fab up a mounting bracket and make it perfect.

That's what I was thinking but everyone's trying to make me feel like an a$$clown for asking this question lol

If you can find a 1 wire alt that will mount up it will work. But if you have a harness on your current alt. not using it could set off a code and your check engine light will come on and you will have to have a mechanic turn it off.

then it will come on again and again also different vehicles have different idle speeds and such that the alts are made to put out a certain amount at a certain rpm

True but that is why they make different diameter pulleys. No it won't I did it on my blazer. You being an ASE cert. mech should know that. I took the EGR system of my impala and had a mech do something not exactly sure but it never came on again after that same with my blazer.

well you said nothing about bypassing it just said have someone clear the code if you clear it it will more than likely come back on again
