Arc'ed my + batt post & ratchet through my wedding ring the other night... Pix inside

Doing a favor to the wife and swapped her dead van battery out for a new one, and went to do a final tightening on the negative terminal that was buried up in the engine bay and accidentally tagged my ring onto the + battery post while I was holding the ratchet & extension to make sure this exact thing did not happen.

Touched ring, heard sparks, ring burned all the layers in my skin off and then popped like a 150a fuse right off my finger in to the engine bay (I am yet to find it, or more likely the two pieces it ended up in as it was sparking/burning off my finger). It is burned and singed on the top, melted on the side/bottom, and after a week it's starting to possibly heal over.

Had I even recalled having the ring on, I'd have taken it off, but after 8 yrs it is an afterthought //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

what? I turned my wedding ring into a live action fuse from a car battery. google 'circumferential electric contact burn' to get some looks at people whose rings didnt blow off and welded a ring of fire around their finger. For the first time, I can say I'm happy not being loaded with cash and getting a smaller/thinner ring - it blew off my finger before worse damage happened.

It was a pure accident, so much that I even told my Son-In-Law recently to remove his metal when he was wrenching under his hood. I've got bank of batteries and never did this. It happened quick, too.

This got me wondering if there is a chart saying what kind of amperage a 14k wedding band can allow through before it blows up. I've seen alot of images where the whole ring just burned every layer of skin off, but stayed in tact. Mine blew off in a fiery ball into the engine bay, luckily none of my hoses or wires got burned.

Good idea, lol. Or if the ring is tough to take off, people above have referenced just taping it off so it does not conduct.
