Arc Audio 4050 Heat problem

I have my Arc Audio 4050 4 CH amp driving 4 comps rated at 100RMS each speaker. I set the gains on the amp for exactly 55 watts each channel. The rated current for this amp.

When I play the music near the 55 watt setting on my HU after about 1/2 hour the amp gets so hot it shuts down for a sec.

Should I turn the gain down or would a cooling fan be enough? I have 500 watts on seperate amp going to subs with stock electrical system. Could it be low voltage?

Thanks Biker

Thank you, I turned the gains down a little and theres still plenty of power. Its not shutting down but theres no air movement and still getting fairly hot so im getting the fan.

Thanks Biker

Hey does that crossflow turbo fan mount on one end of the amp? It doesnt add height does it? I only have a 1/2" above and below the amp.

Thanks Biker

You can build a platform to lift the crossflow fan to push air right across the surface of the amp through the shallow cooling fins of the XXK. The fan itself should be next to the amp, not ontop. Either on the power wire side or line level input side. Sorry if I was unclear about that. The difference in heat will be phenomenal.

^^ What He Said^^

My poor 4150 has cut off due to overheating a few times now that it's finally warming up some here in Florida... I was also thinking about wiring up a fan or 2...was considering using 120mm computer fans hooked up via a relay wired to the remote wire, but that cross flow fan looks...interesting. You've used this to good effect, 00poop6x?

I've had more success in mounting and cooling with the crossflow for countless people. I've stumbled across this thing about 5 years ago and never went back to the sqaure cooling fan.

A brief description; if I may, it focuses the moving air as a flat plane instead of a wall like that of a typical 120mm square fan. The square fans were actually designed to either bring air into a cabin space or blow air onto something, not across(efficiently).

Ever see a janitor use those turbo-looking fans on a tile floor to help dry? Similar concept in terms of plane of thrust. If any of you have replaced those old kitchen stove convection fans, you know what i'm talkin' about.

Ok I recieved an 8" Stinger and relay from ebay ( $29 shipped ) and installed it between both amps. It keeps a nice flow of air over the 4050 and now it never gets hot at any volume. NOTE: I dont believe this fan draws enough current to damage the HU but I put the relay in anyways.

Thanks everyone
