Signal in =signal out. Check your loc. The 3/4 you have turned up is also a gain. If thats a little sketchy then the amp amplifies that signal.

So, the loc could be sending a clip signal if turned up too far?

Also...sounds like your wanting more output/bass. Ever consider more subs?

Did you wire the subs at 2 ohms for the colossus, wire to 1 ohm for AQ.

I'd say the stock head unit is sending a pretty dirty signal. The LOC just amplifies that signal, nothing gets cleaned up So basically you were getting a dirty signal from the get go. Probably the Reason why your hifonics blew in the first place.

ALSO

what DB test tone were you using? If you are using a 0 DB test tone, it could be why you are clipping prematurely too because your music might not even get close to 0 db. Most rock, mainstream and oldies rap are like -6 to -12 db

Thanks for all the excellent info man. So basically the problem lies solely in the stock deck. My wiring harness will be here early next week and I have a mid 2000's pioneer or alpine deck to choose from on hand to install for now, so hopefully that solves the problem

As for the rest tone, I did use a 0db tone at first but after I set the gain the output from the amp was pathetic so I reset the gain using a few different songs I normally listen to. Definitely improved but still not where I know it should be.
