AQ HDC3 Copper Coil VS Aluminum.

What coils did you guys get? and why? Wich will make the sub louder? I'm asking because theres a price diference by 81 dollars.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif compare to the copper coil.
I think it all depends on the power you have. copper coils should be louder with lower power because they are more efficient, but you can send more power to the aluminum coils so they have the potential to be louder.

Well I'm planin on ordering 2 hdc3 15's runnin of a mmats d3500.05 2700 wrms @ .5 ohms. Both with copper will be 578.00 shipped and with Aluminum they'll be 740.00 shipped. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif:crap:

I also whent to the FI website and they have the FI BL 15's loaded with BP(cooling) and aluminums coils for 568.00 shipped wich is 10 bucks cheaper than the AQ's with copper coils.

I have already tried FI(there SSD model) and would love to try out AQ since I have already owned some FI's but Idk.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

Copper will do fine in your application

there is no sound quality difference, they certinally will invoke different TSP's because of the BL and moving mass difference.

Copper has 56% more BL than AL

Copper is 300% more mass than AL

Copper is about 60% more thermally conductive.

Copper is more expensive.

the moving mass difference makes aluminum the bettrer choice in most applications.

IE. Aluminum will play louder.

x2 - I was able to get over 2 dB louder with aluminum coils than copper coils in my testing in an equivalent driver otherwise.

The copper sub, obviously, has a MUCH lower FS - so works better for applications requiring that.

my copper coils are getting a pair of Sundown 1500D's each with no problems. I read that the copper will get louder off less power, but have never had a chance to actually test that theory.

The aluminum coils are US made and according to DJ are very similar to the old HD's. I switched from HD's to HDC's with copper and SQ seems to be the same.

I had never heard that before. interesting

just curious, how much power were you sending to the copper vs aluminum?

Two 3000s strapped to either sub - lots of power.

Aluminum was more efficient on lower power as well - we tested (in another car) single 1500, single 2000, and single 3000 on the sub.

Not sure what the AQ copper coil looks like but I was testing 8-layer flat copper vs. 8-layer flat aluminum.
