aq 2200 power hog?

pretty much what everyone is saying:
-in a perfect world, you want your car to always be charging above 14.0v while system is at full tilt.

-adding batteries can protect your voltage for a short period of time, but there is a time where you can play it to long and the alternator can not keep up with charging the extra batteries.

-some are happy with being in the 12 volt range, but that is completely subjective, the higher the voltage, the less hard your system needs to work, which results in less heat, which also results in a more healthy system.

-if you have the money, go with a HO alt. that is the only way you can completely cure your voltage problems.

which is understandable. but my amp dont get hot running at 12.5v. and again for me it only sees that 2 times a month for like 4mins each time

Yes and no for the most part. You are correct but there is a bit more to it.

The alternator has work harder then designed when you add anything to the electrical. Then if you add batteries do to voltage drop(alternator can not keep up), then you are only adding more of a load for your alternator. Ending results will end in damaged items over time. For the mass majority who say other wise run small systems and no where near the power they think they are and thus are allowed to "slide by" to some extent.

i can see that you dont need one for the fact that you only go full tilt at comps. @pr\-festiva swapped out his stock alt in his festiva and burped .1 db's on the mic. playing your system for a couple seconds to a minute is totally different from 1-2 hours. your alt can catch back up in a matter of seconds/minutes depending on the size of your battery bank.

yea like around town it stays about 13.8 to 14.0 cus i dont push it hard. it gets annoying after a bit to. on my way to shows i dont turn it on and the batts charge as much as possible.

That was typed from a phone and with horrible grammar/punctuation lol..... I'm far to lazy to put more effort into it. My English teachers and professors I'm sure will be disaponited with me. That will be ok though, I'm am actually still working on my novel..... really I am lol //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/sneaky.gif.7189749b3a3f769e8815b47e8ae87f88.gif

Have you checked to ensure it is accurate? Many have to be adjusted to read correctly.

Not saying yours isn't but it is better to be safe then sorry.

yea we rode with dmm connected to my batts and tested alt. dmms read the same as my volt meter

Well I'm not reading 8 pages, but this thread blew up quick. Did the OP ever learn how to set his gains?
