i would have been up there waiting to leave too. You should not be subjected to listening to someones biased opinions. and what does it matter if he is in school? your supposed to receive a diverse education, not one man's opinion...

Sorry, but you are in school, most of your rights do not apply and you listen to the teachers, that is all there is to it. If you don't want to obey then drop out and see where it gets you.

I don't get in trouble in school at all. It's just a matter of not getting caught.

I agree, however political based rants should not be a part of the education process. Was this assembly a politcal rant? maybe or maybe not, but I know for **** sure I wouldn't sit there and listen to someone I think I am more intelligent than.

I'm 18, so I've got just as many rights as the next person. As were most of these kids, they were all seniors. In my school at least, most teachers won't stop a senior from anything, we can just leave during school, we will get a write up for it, but they can't stop you if you're not a minor.

Its not the fact that it was a black history assembly, it was the fact that he was telling kids that Obama is the next great thing. I think the kids who left set a great example that no one should be molded by being forced to sit through something they did not want to.

As for the military, those men who are my superior have earned my respect, I don't have a problem following orders given to me, but they have limits as well, its not just a do whatever I tell you thing, there are a lot of rules.

It doesn't matter if you are 18 or not, you are a student and the second you step on campus you have reduced rights. You miught need to brush up on the law some.

It is all part of the process, getting as much information from as many points of view as possible, and then using that information to form a truly educated opinion for yourself.

You should try to question the speaker if it's at all possible. But if you want to leave, I don't see what's stopping you.

Thats actually what the first kid said. He's actually our valedictorian and offered to go on stage and speak as well. Apparently the teacher said no.

It didn't help that all the teachers and staff on stage were sitting there with huge grins and nodding there head excessively with everything the guy said.

Incorrect, even at the age of 18 you still are subject to the rules of the administration/classroom. At 18 you can choose to drop out, or you can choose to be subject to the rules of the school, you can't be in between
