the activation process is automated, give it a try, the worse that happens is itll say activation failed, then you'll know. it can b done on verizons websitet too.

So when you leave the country you can ring up an $800 bill? We had a customer come in and scream and yell because she used her phone out of the country and got an $800 bill.

But, the charges weren't from Verizon, they were from the local wireless carrier.

Best thing to do when you leave the country is to get a prepaid or rental phone in the place you are going. Super cheap compared to the alternatives.
