You could just make an MDF enclosure and then cover it with a 1/4" veneer of any wood you want. Add some nice stain and poly and it would look nice.
Just built these last week, stained BB. Looks pretty good in person.

I'm actually of the age where I can appreciate the beauty in the grain of the wood and the cherry/mahogony stain mix brings it out nicely. Looks MUCH better in person, but it's not like I go around popping my trunk anyway.
