Anyone with a modded ps3

I want to know if it's possible to get the cracked firmware without actually buying anything. Most things you buy are just a thumbdrive with the file on it if i'm not mistaken.

Anyone with experience with this a link to a guide or something would be great.

as far as i know, the newest update hasn't been cracked yet. it would be best to wait it out.
