i had 2 12" sxs ported but i want to upgrade to possibly 4 10" sx's in a 5 cb ft box tuned to 33 an 2 bx2200 i was wanting to know would 4 10's be signifintly louder than 2 12's? im not stuck on just re either if anyone has any comments im willing to experment. but i cant go any larger than 5 cubes

If you had 2 12's and 4 10's all the same brand and model subs in their recommended enclosures, the 4 10's should give you 1.5x more bass than the 2 12's.
I dont really know about 1.5 times more bass but should be louder, I know of 2 people locally using 2 10" and hitting 149-152db on the dash //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

i would say about 139% more bass, if the enclosure is right...

But that is just using cone area.....

but i think it would def. be a little louder, esp. depending on the install....

im just gonna assume your numnbers are right but it would actually be 39% more DISPLACEMENT, not bass. So you'd actually only be about 1.17 dB louder which is about 11.7% more bass //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Yeah thats it...displacement, oh well.....

I think with the right enclosure and install it could def. be more than 1.17 db louder though....

spl140.2 what kind of tens where they using because that was louder than my 2 12's i want the loudest setup possible for what airspace i have i would like to hit at least an 150 i no i want to get 2 bx 2200 but what 3 10's or 4 10's would yall recomend to fit in an 5 cb ft box give or take a lil

it definitely could. Imjust speaking theoretically assuming evrything is the same. The general rule of thumb is doubling the cone are will give you a 3dB gain, so a 39% increase in cone area or displacement will give you 1.17 dB more.

ok, thats cool, i will have to remember that. nice work....

How much are you looking to spend on the subs? I would presonally recommend 4 because you can wire them to 1 ohm, with only 3 you can wire them to 2.67 in series/parallel, but if you wired all 3 in parallel, it would be less than a 1 ohm load so you would have to find 2 amps that are stable at less than 1 ohm...

i would also be doubling the power also cause i had one bx1500 an i woul dhave two bx 2200s so that would be an 3 db increase or more
what size is your alt? You are gonna need at least a 200 amp h/o alt for 2 bx2200's.

um not much more than a grand for just subs i guess like 1100 but whatever subs i get i would like to be dual 4 ohms so i could hook two up to one amp if i had to though i could prolly buy 4 bx1000's i guess, but amps i either want 4 bx1000's or 2 bx 2200's perferbaly the 2200's because of price.

i have an 200 amp alt one yellow top under the hood an two optimas in the bed i used to have two bx 1500's an my lights hardly dimed at all but with the truck turned off i could have the system up for 30 mins an my truck would still crank up so powering the amps shouldnt be a problem

1 had a pair of mofo's in a civic hatchback, the other had Rockford Fosgate the new ones dont know the model number though, again in a hatchback. Different vehicles get louder than others. Id personally go with 2 10" woofers in a 5 cub ft box with a port tuned to the resonant frequency of your ride. Use a large port. Use all the power from your amps on burps. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

You are obviously very confused, this is almost impossible that two local guys are doing this, 2 10s doing 149db would take an expert and extremly well built subwoofers.

What exactly are these guys doing to acheive these phenominal numbers?
