Anyone used a Sony XM-1S?

No, I have not. I have heard a couple people use the equivalent 4 channel with nice results.

I wouldn't think for a second of doing over rated power, but I would think it would do rated power. The 4 channel is on sale for ~ $200.

Yes, the 4 channel is ~8x8x1 or so.
MB Quart also makes a super-small amp as well, but they are bit more pricy.

Is size or cost your greater constraint?
A little of both. More so size, but it's going in a secondary vehicle. What's the model of the MB Quart?

Here's the sony info for both mono/4 channel

and the MbQuart

The MbQuart is a bit taller, but doesn't do your desired power at 2 ohms.

The pdx's would be a better bet perhaps...but the cost is about double...but so is power. From what I understand Arc Audio is supposed to be coming out with something in the 75x4 range that is super small. They have a 2 channel out now that may work...because of the images the site uses, I cannot find a link...but I am thinking you will run into an insufficient amount of power issue.

Thanks flip
No problem...I sorta have a dog in this fight...I am hoping if I start the discussion another user may offer some suggestions I have yet to contemplate. I am debating between the mbquart and the sony for my truck...

The Sony trumps in size, where I think the mbquart has the edge in reliability. I am in the good position that cost isn't as much as an issue as space. The pdx's are too big... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

does 200x2@4ohms

250x2@2ohms and

500 bridge @4omhs however lastnight i had it bridged and cranked the gain up to 3/4 and no bass boost and my dmm hit 720 so it puts out good power

Hi! This thing does it rated power definitely! I can say more - it does it at 12.5V! I saw a review of mono blocks in Caraudio magazine, unfortunately not in english. So, the rated power of Sony XM-1S:

Continuos power

Power supply voltage 12.5 V at THD = 1%

4 Ohm load 276 Wt

2 Ohm load 455 Wt

THD at 63 Hz; 4 Ohm/2 Ohm 0.130/0.162 %

Input sensitivity 0.39 — 8.3 V

Signal to noise ratio 95 db

Frequency range (+0/-1db) 4.0 — 225 Hz

Maximum power draw at idle 0.5 A

It does more power than Phoenix Gold RSd 600.1 with 256 at 2 Ohm & 399 at 4 Ohm Wt true RMS at 1 % thd at 12.5V
