Anyone use/used the 6.5" JL Audio C5 Evolution 2 way set?

Sup man. Saw them at my local dealer a while back. Build quality seems very good. They were reworking their soundboard, so I wasn't able to audition. I've been curious about them, as well.

I've read that the mids are built with the same cooling technology as their ZR line, but I'd like to read some actual user experience with them.

Here's what Crutchfield's blurb is on them....standard promotional company jargon....

"The C5-650 component system features a pair of silk dome tweeters that broadcast all the musical details without a hint of harshness. JL Audio built the 6-3/4" woofers for extended cone travel so they'll move more air, putting more oomph in your music when the rhythm section kicks in. These woofers use the same patented cooling technology developed for the ZR Series speakers, allowing the C5 speakers to play with a wide dynamic range at all volumes.

The C5 crossovers feature 4-position tweeter and 3-position midrange levels that give you 12 possible adjustment combinations for exceptional control over the final sound. "

They're cool and I found a pair online from eBay for $250. Had 'em installed and after about a week of break in sounded really great. The silk tweeters weren't too harsh at all and I had 'em running passive hooked up to my 300/4v2. The highs would scream and after dynamating my doors the midbass stood out so heavily. However, I don't know if it's cuz I got 'em online or what but the passenger side woofer blew //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

So now I'm gonna take 'em out and put some Focal K2Ps

But not bad for $250 comps imho

Good luck

Thinking of dumping the Rainbows for them? Will you be running them active?
LOL No way, man. Especially since I basically sold a kidney to get the Profi Van Kick mids. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

I think I might be able to get a really good deal on the mids for this set if I wanted, so I guess I'm just fishing for some info to see if it'd be worth it to experiment with them.

Thanks for the input, kev. Everything I've read about the K2P's just tells me that set is BADA$$. Expensive, but apparently well worth it.
