Anyone upgraded from hifonics...

to a "higher prestige amp" you might say in that same wattage range.. like say u had a hifonics 1208d and got an aq 1200d.. did u notice a big difference?

if so state what kind of amp u had and what u upgraded to..

doesnt have to be hifonics either.. can be any amp that people on here consider "budget amps"

Yes, I used to have an old Hifonics 1000D or something. I upgraded to a RE 12.1. So glad I did.

I have one up on the OP... I just skipped Hifonics and began my system with a better amp:laugh:

the hifonics isnt a bad amp, it just is a lil overrated. Its not like u can hear a audible difference between to amps with identical wattage. If ur gonna up grade, its usually for more wattage, not something with the same.

I had a Hifonics 1606d and ran it @ .5 ohm on two type R's and it HIT and never got hot ( I only cranked it a couple of times a day, not for long periods of time) and my friend bought two sd2.5 10's on a AQ1200d and I was not impressed @ the power it put out honestly, this was wired @ 1ohm

Those things would barely move before the clipping light would turn on and all the gains were checked with a oscilliscope

Edit: To be fair I will say that I have had experience with a ED9.1 and that amp was a beast @ 1ohm

If I were to upgrade or buy a 1000-1200 watt amp than I would (this is for putting out power) get a ED9.1, DD M1a, SAE-1000d, or somthing along those lines.

If I am the only person dissapointed with the AQ 1200d then I will re-diagnose the problem and get back to you

what was your electrical like, I have a 1608 that I was debating throwing .5 ohms at but Im scared too cause Im broke right now and if I blow it thats a wrap on my sounds for a month or so and I just got shit running half way decent

By most peoples standards here it was poor, and I mis-stated that it was my system...I sold the 1606d to a close friend and installed everything for him but basically I could tell you anything about it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

There was a 85 amp alternator, stock battery, and a big marine battery in the back of the car....(turns out that battery was dead)

His voltage drop wasnt bad and he babied it and went along just fine....

The amp never dropped into protect or got hot, when we first hooked it up I looked to make sure it wasnt heating up to fast or smelled funny ect...

If I were you then I would go ahead and do it, I assume box rise bumped the impedance up a bit but I would try it and @ the very worst your amp would go into protect IMO

i dont think hifionics are meant to be ran at .5ohm.

i think there higher wattage amps are.

Hifonics are not bad amps, i dont understand why everyone hates on them. Just because it isnt a sundown or aq doesnt mean its a sony. Most of the people that bash them just assume they **** because they are affordable.

I've owned 3 hifonics brutus's, they are good budget power. slightly overrated IMO, but probably do rated power at 14.4v if you can keep your voltage that high.

same here, had a 1500 watt when i only needed 1000. good amp but little overrated. i don't pay attention to the haters. i think they are worth it for the price but if you want 1000 watts do like i did and step it up. my 1500 was a nice and and i wish i didnt have to sell it
