Aren't the .308 and 7.62 the same round? One nato one u.s.?

yes, but that is 7.62x51. This is 7.62x54. Basically the same ballistics, just a little different cartridge. The x54 uses a .311 caliber bullet too, instead of .308 like the 7.62x51.

How good are .270's? I was thinking about getting something for sniping at the range that is cheap to shoot and isn't tiring. Either that or another remington 700 in a .308.
