Anyone successfully hack their TiVo?

as the title says...
No but i broke one of the dishnetwork DVR's trying to take it apart and clone the drive. Didnt really break it i guess but i did wipe the drive and ruin any chance o putting it back together as a working DVR. Got a nice seagate hd out of it though.

That sucks. Have you dug around the net to see if there's any way to get another image and a way to reload it?

A while back I followed some instructions to hack the TiVo to add a second drive and double the space. Everything seemed like it went perfectly. The drives "married" as they should, but the TiVo menu shows the original storage size. I'm not sure now if it did actually work. Now, the 2nd drive is doing the tap-dance-of-death so I want to pull it, especially if it's not actually working as part of the system. I'm afraid to yank the 2nd drive though because if it did marry successfully, I'd lose all possibility of getting the TiVo working again, like what happened with yours... Plus, my wife would kill me if I lost all her saved shows and movies *hardeehar*

I did this like 5 years ago..but i didnt try to hard to find the image...i remember there seemed to be a lot more out there about actual tivo units then the dish network rip off ones.. espciallyway back then.

Not sure about your problem, i guess i would just pull the focker and see if it still worked. I guess it would seem like if it never doubled your original size then it should be fine..unless it really did double the capacity and just didnt show it in the menu...good luck //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

One of these forums should be good, but i have no idea what one ;p

So what are you trying to do? I'm lost.I can probably find a TiVo hack somewhere on my "special" forums. Or google always works.
Nothing really. Just making conversation about TiVo hacking.

As far as I know it's not illegal to hack your TiVo to add additional recording space -- it just voids your warranty. So it's a nifty way to get more bang for your buck if you can get it to work right.

http://www.WeaKnees.com sells pre-hacked TiVos, and I think they even warranty their work. They have one that's a full TeraByte of storage!

Man why would you even want a TB of tivo storage!?! I guess i dont use mine for long termvstorage of shit i want to archive. I just use to it to record the crap i watch every day..so i can watch it on a delay with no commercials. What i want is a dual tuner one. I can upgrade for $100 from dish (i have generic dish network dvr) but i always spend the $ on something else...100 hours is plenty to me, i want to watch and record different channels!

I'm with ya' bro'. That's a HD unit though, and HD recording takes up hella' lotta' space, so maybe it is justified for some people. I'm still not even sure I've filled up 1 of my TiVo's yet -- never checked -- spend too darn much time at work so I have no idea what's on TV. Wife loves TiVo though!
