anyone seen Mega Mat ?

It's very hard to tell what that is from the description. The funniest line to me is:

Mega Mat is 70 Mils Nominal Thickness Other Top Brands are Only 67 Mils
So their nominal thickness is 3/1000th of an inch thicker than the other leading brands? Shiny isn't an important characteristic of foil, thickness is and they don't mention that. They've carried the 1 mil PSA claim over from FatMat. This certainly wasn't true for FatMat - the asphalt was the adhesive as it should be for a constrained layer damper. If they've actually taken some sort of cured butyl sheeting and applied a PSA it isn't a good sign.

I'm sure they've gotten tired of people complaining about the asphalt and they seem to have mostly stopped claiming their asphalt products are butyl. The important thing is that an effective vibration damper is a very careful balance between adhesive formulation and foil thickness/strength. Butyl isn't automatically effective, it just isn't likely to melt. Not being likely to melt is about as low a standard as you can set. If you understand what you are selling, tell us about it. If not, just stop.

I am so sick of hearing about SS damplifier. It seems all they do is pick apart other companies. I have used Dynamat extreme only, so I cant say if its better or not. I just hate hearing everyone preach about them.

second skin may cost more but its a far better product that anything else
i definitely agree with you. on the other hand I do like having other options out there. it would be pretty funny if this stuff is actually "rebranded damplifier", lol. i would love to see test between both to see if there is actually a drastic difference or if it's like "which woofer is better; AQ SDC2.5, DC Lvl3, or RE SE?", it's just personal preference.

Looks like a thicker version of their regular Fatmat product.

I'll stop there.. I would hate to tell give you guys a professional analysis and correct the hyperbole based verbiage on their site, and have it taken as me bashing a competitor..

PM me if you want to know the truth.

I have never seen anyone from second skin blatantly attack another product. Ive actually seen ant recommend another deadening product on his own forum.

He simply states the facts, it just happens to show that the budget deaeners you guys love **** at deadening.

Its not so much you, as people who take your words out of context and spew them as their own. I trust your knowledge over my own and others, but people who just recommend it just because annoys me. I would love to try second skin, and I can say for a fact, someday I will. Same goes for other companies. Everyone preaches Fi, me included, but after I opened up to trying other products I learned more. I think the answer is to give all the knowledge you can give, and from their let people decide. Im sorry if my post came across as offensive as that is not how it was ment. You know how it is to hear everyone ride one product. Once again, I didnt mean to bad mouth you or your product, I am just open to people trying new things from different companies and compairing them to what they have used in the past.

I doubt that. Gray adhesive, plastic release layer. I'd guess it is some sort of butyl material, but that is a far cry from being a useful sound deadener.

Fatmat Sound Control has been servicing the sound dampening industry for many years now. When we started we made one product and that was our FatMat Extreme. Slowly throughout the years we added new products to our line. Our goal is and always will be to offer our customers the best products at the best prices possible. Butyl is a very expensive product, and that's why so many others make false claims of offering a true butyl product, and the ones that do have a true butyl product sell it at ridiculous prices. FatMat has finally found a way to offer you a true butyl product and we did this while still making it very cost effective. Our new Mega Mat is thicker and it contains less fillers giving you a true rubberized butyl compound.
The claims made on the MegaMat page are extraordinary. First of all, the guy who owns FatMat bought it less than a year ago, so claims of what "we" did over the years are a little bit weak. This has been a good thing in the sense that this guy actually ships the product in a timely fashion - unlike the original owners who often took months to ship or just never bothered. Of course it hasn't been a good thing since he's still selling FatMat as a sound deadener.

The statement about companies claiming their products were butyl when they weren't applies both to the original and current owners of FatMat. The guy is bashing other companies for doing what he has done himself.

Try to follow the logic of this statement:

Butyl is a very expensive product, and that's why so many others make false claims of offering a true butyl product, and the ones that do have a true butyl product sell it at ridiculous prices.
Butyl IS an expensive raw material. That being the case, it's going to cost more in finished form. Unless he is planning on losing money on every package sold his statement is absurd. Since his statement is absolute we have to conclude that either his product isn't butyl or he is selling it a ridiculous price.

A few more interesting points:

# Tremendous Bass Gains

# Gain Unbelievable Sound Quality

# Reduce Distortion

# Massive DB Gains
These would all be application specific using a product that performed well. It isn't magic.

# Practically eliminates Road Noise, Loud Exhaust and Engine Noise
The best vibration damper in the world won't do that.

#Keeps Heat In-Cold Out in the Winter, Keeps Cold in-Heat Out in the Summer! A Great Installation!
To what extent? All of the claims this guy makes can be quantified - but why bother when unconstrained marketing hype works so well? Great Installation? What does that mean? Did he mean to say: "Great insulation"? If so, no it's not.

Patented Butyl Compound
Prove it. Referencing a patent without a patent refernece is ridiculous.

# Polished Aluminum Shield

# Very Flexible
Being a "shield" is at the very bottom of the list of things the foil does on a true CLD. Being flexible is the last thing you want in a CLD

I can almost guarantee you that the spec'ing for this product went like this: "My customers are complaining about me selling asphalt. Give me the cheapest material I can say is butyl".

That's not how you end up with a vibration damper. We saw the same thing with eDead v² line of products.Sure it's butyl, but it isn't a vibration damper. Either this guy doesn't know anything about how these products are supposed to work or he is intentionally trying to confuse people into believing this product is something it isn't. Don't be fooled.

Have you used every product on the market? and second skin what? they have alot of product lines. Do you mean like spectrum, damp pro, or another product they offer:p
