anyone run pro sound drivers in their cars?

just curious i've seen a couple people run pro sound drivers and horns in their vehicles, im contemplating running a 3 way active system using a Eminence Alpha-6C as a midrange, or a B&C 6PEV13 , both crossed from say 300hz to 5khz, just an idea im tossing around. Frequency responses look good, they both have good reviews, both are extremely efficient, im just curious what the big difference in sound is between pro sound drivers and regular woofers

The beauty of car audio... You can Do It Yourself OR you can choose from what is available out there. It is all a matter of how involved you want to get!

Pretty soon, I plan on running an active 3-Way front stage in my 2006 Mustang using Pioneer slim mounts for my midbass, but I will either use some SPX or SPR 6.5" speakers for my mid-range, and/or SPX/SPR tweeters for the highs. In other words, I will probably cheat and run a matched component set rather than picking/choosing my mids and highs!

i'd just like to try something different, and from the people who DO run pro sound speakers in their cars i've yet to hear one of them complain, infact they all rave, but if its really that good, than why isn't everyone doing it?

Yes its fairly common. Not around here though...

I have a pair of Audax prosound mids Ive been planning to run in a 3-way with my horns. But I just crashed the vehicle that system fit in. Maybe some day.

ok i've been proven wrong by you before lol, so ill take your word for it lol

what do you think about these for a 2 way

and would it be a bad idea to mix pro drivers with normal drivers?

for instance the Eminence Alpha-8A 8's and the seas neo tweets? or bad idea to mix n match like that

My pro drivers would be matched with 'car audio' horns and IDQ 8's. The problem will come from matching output levels. You will want to help yourself by scaling power. My horns, some day, will have (approx) 25 watts at 105 efficiency, the mids will have 75 watts, and the midbass will get all they can handle (2 pairs of 8's, if space allows it). You will then fine tune with your processor.

yeah i knew about the matching levels because the pro drivers are incredibly more efficient.

my truck has 3.5" speakers stock in the upper corners of the dash, how bad of an idea would it be to mount horns, the small round ones (will provide example) up in the dash firing up into the glass, would that totally screw with my imaging and stage or...?

not necessarily these, but you get the idea, they would mount in the factory 3.5 locations firing up at the fron windshield

Bouncing off the glass is generally a bad idea. And the horns I was referring to were compression horns, not those.

i know the ones you were refering to, i was just curious if something like that would work. I'm completely clueless when it comes to pro drivers and horns other than my ability too understand basic speaker terms, ohms, efficiency, fs, power and my ability to read a frequency response graph

hmmm... i have eminence texas heat's in my guitar cab.... killer low end crunch and ear piercing pinch-harmonics

eminence makes killer speakers

Stay away from piezo based horns. And stay away from reflecting your mids/highs off any surface, if possible.
