Anyone near Merced, CA?

not too far from san francisco either so it shouldnt be too bad.
yeah its not bad at all, certainly not the best place to live for night life but the amount of money and opportunities to grow are where its at for this position

Get at it. It will be one hell of an experience.
I know there are specific sites for taking care of houses. You should check those out too. They don't charge like AirBNB. They are more of a trade off. Water the plants for a month in exchange for free room and board type ****.

San Francisco is a shit hole. That doesn't make anything better.
if i could find a place like that id jump on it, any recommendations on where to look? hard to get someone to trust a 20 something guy right out of college but if i explain im a professional and not a partier it might help

im still waiting to hear back from the company so we'll see what the definitive offer is

Merced is cheap as far as Cali goes. 1br apt is likely around 6-700$. The central valley is the **** part of the state.

Being from humid heat, this dry heat might not bother you. But it is 100-105 all summer.

Lots of gang bullshit in Merced.

Good Mexican food, and good Thai food tho (decent sized SE asian population in Merced)

1.5hr from SF, SAC... 4.5hr from LA

Is a pretty good audio scene. We have Db drag, usaci and Meca with the occaisional iasca thrown in. I dont know the Merced guys personally, but theres a couple mid 150s builds there. Plenty of shows in Fresno and modesto area which is like 45 min either way

thanks guys, spoke with the CEO of the company subcontracting for them (im the first employee theyve gotten approval for out of 10 lol things are getting worked out)

he said they're more concerned that ill just leave after a month and they were really interested in having me work for them so they're talking about me just moving out here initially instead of this first month bs. they gave me a lot more promising news regarding relocation costs and long term employment so things seem to be working out. ill hear more tomorrow and ill still be on the lookout for cheap housing just to start saving mad money asap.

if anyone knows which parts of merced to avoid i would appreciate it. im willing to spend up to $1200 a month for a one bedroom apartment.

North East Merced is good. North Merced is generally good. Downtown, midtown and some of what would be like east merced isnt great.

Generally they say stay close to the colleges.

Merced is no Oakland. But its rough areas tend to be pretty rough. Merced is pretty consistently 1 of the highest crime cities in Cali for population below 100k

good to know, not a place to go out on a friday night then. they're operating in a pretty remote part i would assume so im going to just play it safe while im out there and build myself, and then if i want to go out and have a good time go to somewhere like san jose or sf for a weekend. fortunately there's a good amount of you guys near by so maybe we can plan a meetup but thats months down the road.

things have been crazy the last few months with me and job oppurtunities going from dallas to des moines to australia to now san merced so we'll see what actually happens. they want me out there literally in the next two weeks so ill have some news soon i hope. i just want to get started making that career salary in a professional field - a good goal i think

California has a **** ton of flaws, but accessibility to a good job market is not one of them. Central cali in general has less to offer, but there are still industries here.

Perhaps the coolest thing about Merced, its like an hour from Yosemite if you care about that. There is also a University there, so plenty of 20 somethings, especially if you live over there.

If there is dotcom industry in merced, i dont know about it. Merced is a relatively small (80k) agricultural city in the central valley.

Fresno is a complete **** hole. Worst city in the state imo. All these valley cities are mostly the same, just larger or smaller. Sacramento is the only one that can really claim to have alot going on. Thats like 100 miles north of Merced. I think the metro area has to be around 2 million by now. But even then, Sac doesnt have nearly as much going on as the bay or LA area

Rivercats, Kings, a pretty good amount of concerts, very strong microbrewing community, restaurants are improving, by far the best job market in the valley.. trust me, it is an oasis compared to Fresno, Bakersfield etc

Stockton actually is worse than Fresno. But at least they embrace being a terdhole. Fresno tries to act like a world class city.
