anyone know if the dakota has a reg outside the alt

i was looking at doing a big 3 upgrade on my 2003 dak mostly because i am at stoping point in my install waiting on my subs and saw that my alt wire goes to the under hood fuse box wondering if the regulator is there on on the alt cause that would be some problems if i run off the alt straight to the battery

thats like my acclaim, i have no clue where the alt connects to the battery.

its prob a fuse, if it is just run it to the alt with a fuse that matches the alts output

thats how my g/f van is. the wire goes into the fuse box to feed the box, and maybe fused too. but i'm pretty sure that all newer carshave internal regulators. if still in doubt call the parts store in the morning and ask them.

well it goes into the box and hits a post and has a fuseable link on the 8awg going in to the box i will give the parts store a call and see what they have

if you have some spare wire just run it from the alt to the batt.

disconnect the "factory" wiring and start your truck up.

Look at the voltage, if it stays at 12v then it has an external regulator.

if it bumps up to 14.4v then its internal and your fine with the big 3.

if it runs into a fuse box, and he cuts the box out of the circuit the truck might not run, because most of the time the relays under the hood are for vital engine functions, ie. fuel pump, fans, sensors, etc. . . please if you do this, use caution.
