Anyone into Resto Mods? What if I said it was Viper powered

My dad and I have been working on restoring a car from the 1950s since my freshman year of high school. We can't work year round because we live in Ohio and I've been in college the past 7 years so it has taken a little longer than expected. We are nearing the final stages. I just updated our Car Domain site so feel free to take a look at our progress.

AFAIK the only other person to do a build like this was Chip Foose, when he put a Viper V10 into a 1954 Plymouth. We have been invited by Chrysler to show the car in their tent at the 2012 Woodward Dream Cruise in Detroit. Mopar Magazine also caught wind of it and wants to do an article once its done too. There's still a lot of work to be done, we are hoping to have it done or near done by then. Enjoy.

Some quick info on the build:

1956 Desoto Firedome Seville 2dr Hardtop

1996 Dodge Viper V10

2006 Dodge Ram SRT10 Tremec T56 *****

9 3/4inch rear end with 4.10 gears and Dana 60 axles

All makes for a whole lotta nom nom //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

just looked at it and i must say mad props man looks good. wish i couldve came across a dodge v10 and tremec when i was building my buddies 70 duster wouldve been a ******* up grade from the 440cid we put in it.

i remember when me and my uncle tried a 7.0l corvette motor in my old camaro cant say i was happy with that particular setup as it was quickly replaced with a 71nova with a blown 454cid big block that is currently running low 8s sometime high 7s

gotta love old cars lots of history in them

We dumb lucked and won an auction on Ebay to get the engine. It only had 5k miles. We found the ***** through LQK, it only has 22 miles.
i prolly couldve done that but im not that trusting in ebay and a new v10 is around 12k turn key last i checked and the ***** was like 4k but then again this was a few years ago. my 454 cost me right at 8k to make it push 1604hp 1590ftlb nice rear ends and ***** put this thing right at 12k to build add the cage and body/frame work and i spent right at 18k for a full drag ready nova. shell do wheel stands for a good 50-60ft

That motor is pretty cheap for the power it puts out. We were originally going to run a 440 bored and stroked to around 500cui but the costs to build one were around 8-10k. We paid about half of that for the V10. We had the pcm reflashed and will add some bolt ons so it should be close to 500hp at the crank and hopefully above 400 at the wheels. I figure if the Ram SRT10 had 500hp at the crank and weighs 5k with 4.13 gearing and runs low 13sec 1/4 miles, we should be in the low 13/high 12 range with the same power and about the same gearing but with 500-800lbs less.

Very nice! I have been restoring cars with my dad since I was little... Currently theres my dads 69 Chevy C-10 step side (454 bored and stroked), My moms 69 Camaro (327), my dads 82 extended hood Kenworth, and I have a 79 F-150 single cab short bed 4wd (351 bored .30 over)

I have a 72 LeMans that will have a 428 bored/stroked to a 455, some sort of O.D. ******, late model GTO interior parts(already have the dash and console). I'd like to do a carputer in the double din slot in the 06 GTO dash(be nice if I ever switch to EFI can have the fuel maps loaded on it) and some decent audio stuffs. I also found someone that sells brackets to put the late model GTO brakes on G.M. A-bodies(double piston calipers). I also plan on making it handle better and stuff, I'm leaning towards pro-touring with it. Just need money and time lol

Nice builds guys. i love me.some old nova.

Ive been following a few builds myself, im not sure if any.of you guys are into imports, but theres a guy putting a jz supra i-6 into a 7th gen celica and converting the entire drivetrain.

I appreciate imports when its apparent that taste, effort, time and money are involved but I don't think I'd ever do one myself.

I'm a member on the Ford Contour Enthusiast Group (contour.org) and theres a guy doing the first ever RWD swap on that platform. He's using mostly Mustang Cobra and other assorted Ford parts for the build. It will be powered by a turbo 3L Duratec v6 and will def be over 400rwhp. The forums on there have been down for over a month though so I havent been able to check in on the progress. Its huge on there though, no one has ever done 12s in a Contour due to the severe lack of traction and availability of strong axles.

I don't mind imports if they are tuner cars, not ricers...but I'm also a RWD fan(AWD is good too though).

kushy that sounds like an interesting build, you should post the link when it's back up I'd like to check it out.

Very nice, I am looking forward to see it at woodward.
