anyone here into drafting?

I work for a plumbing contractor doing CAD. I do design, as-builts, shop drawings and such. I was working at a mechanical consulting engineering firm for a while doing HVAC design. I work with AutoCAD 2006 to AutoCAD 2008 MEP and also know some Revit MEP. My current salary is roughly 50K with full medical, dental, paid sick leave and 2 weeks paid vacation. I would say its ok but definitely not a lot.
my shit is like minimum wage in comparison //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

You probably dont live in Hawaii then. 50k a year is ok in Hawaii but not much. Cost of living is extremly high here.

hand drafting and/or cad...whats your major and how much you makin?
i worked drafting jobs during college and i have a few friends that are still draftsmen. (in sofla) you can expect a starting salary of $15-$18/hr. and be capped out around $25 if you are REALLY GOOD.

I eventually phased out and started doing 3d and design work since i am an industrial designer so doing drafting just got boring to me. ive done all kinds of drafting hvac, landscaping, civil, architectural, mechanical. probably the one ive done most is of products and production stuff since that's what i do for a living.

I use solidworks for my job I design executive furniture I make only like 13 dollars an hour I am told you can make upwards of $50 an hour and see craiglist for job openings at those wages , average on the west coast is over 65k a year I believe

$13????

Bro you are getting shafted HUGE time. I charge $100 an hour for consulting work.

jco1385 - that stuff sucks, I know living expenses is different up here in Boston but for my college job working at Applebee's in the kitchen I started at $9/hr and moved up to $12/hr within a year or two, some of the cooks were getting $15/hr. I would definitely say to check out craigslist or just put yourself out there on monster.com with a decent resume and see what comes up. Cad least for me is pretty easy to pick up and much of the stuff companies are willing to train you on.

I went to school for civil engineering and currently work for a site development consulting firm. Lately pretty much all I do is drafting, AutoCad, Land Desktop, not really any 3D stuff, but contour stuff and a lot of AutoTurn stuff lately. I got started on salary + benefits and straight pay overtime at a hair over $22 an hour.
