Anyone here going to law school/ gone to law school?

I've posted more in your law school threads than anywhere else in this forum the past 6 months. You will be fine, don't get caught up in the "OMG law school is impossible" crap. just time manage and you will be fine. I studied 0 hours at UF during undergrad (except during finals week and I picked an easy major), and I am doing fine thus far. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif You will be "briefing", not necessarily just memorizing a book. Also, nobody is your true friend at law school..they all backstab you; it's sad but true.
well law school grades are 100% relative to how your classmates do, so it makes sense. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

1st year only...it is still gay when people won't repeat what they heard from a PROFESSOR during class. "I'm sorry that might be against the honor code, and I don't want to get in trouble." Welcome to the real world I guess. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

haha, guess it's not a good idea to skip class then like I do now, right? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif In all honesty though, that kind of mindset of not helping out your fellow student is bs to me. I want to get better grades then the next guy because i was more fully prepared or smarter then them, not because i withheld information or tried to sabatoge them, that is very sleezy and unethical.

That is good to heard about the memorizing though, memorizing stuff is probably my strongest academic point, ever since high school i have been amazing at memorizing tons of stuff in a short amount of time.

I concur 100% but if you miss more than I think 6 classes the FL bar mandates you fail the course. However, some teachers dont even take attendance sometimes so its all subjective. Also, always come prepared to class, even if you dont know shit. Make sure you have read the cases so when the socratic method slaps you in the face, you will be ok. Memorizing is only good for knowing the rule of law, applying it is a new technique you will learn. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

well this semester i have been skipping 90% of my classes just because of senioritis, but in previous college semesters i usually don't skip any class at all, so going to them all will not be a problem. I just feel at this point that i should get a little break in college, and im just trying to scrape by right now. I figure they aren't going to pull back my acceptence if I get like a 3.0 GPA this semester instead of a 3.5-6 like I usually do. I could probably get a 2.5 GPA this semester and still not be in any trouble. I am running C's right now in 3 out of the 4 classes im in now (4th is running an A) so im a tad concerned though at this point.

I did the same shit...for 4 years, jk. Just make sure you get your transcripts in and actually graduate, then you are fine. UM won't care, they want that 35k a year!

Also there is a Professor that you might get who teaches named Alfieri i believe and if i remember he teaches civil procedure in your first year. Ive heard more than i want to know about this teacher already and ive never met him. He is very hard on the students. Don't even dream of showing up to his class late or unprepared to speak in front of the class about assigned reading. Also, my brother read all of the recommended readings the summer before he even set foot on campus.

Here is some information on the professor:

see, this is why it's great to talk to people that know stuff about a specific school. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif If i get that guy ill request a different course time or something so i can get someone else. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif Do you know where to get the reccomended readings? That is definately something i will do. I am slacking like crazy now in college because im already accepted into law school and i need a break, but once law school starts i will treat it like my career, because that's literally what it is, and do everything and anything i need to do, and more.

Where I go...1st year classes are set for you already and no modifications allowed. However, try your best to not have that guy, and if you do it is not the end of the world.

That also means ill probably have early classes. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif I love college schedules, my 1st class doesn't start until 12 oclock, and i only have class 2 days a week. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

I'll say this, he is one of the hardest professors ive heard but at the same time he is my brothers favorite professor i think he said. Some times you need a good kick in the *** to make you learn. One of my Accounting teachers was one of the most hated teachers at my school. She is ruthlessly hard on you but she is my favorite Accounting teacher by far because i learned more valuable info in her class than all my other courses combined.

Classes are assigned to you i believe and at least when he started, the schedules were not negotiable //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif I think there is a way to check the syllabus to find the recc. readings. Good idea to call each one of your professors also to introduce yourself and maybe request any recc. readings

Calling would be a good idea, but would that make me look like a ****-up? In undergrad, there was definately a fine line between having a good relationship with your professors and being a brown-noser.

And actually, my favorite professor in college was definately one of the hardest as well. He wasn't impossibly hard, but i definately had to put more work into his class than most others. He was one of the professor's that wrote me a letter, great friggin guy he was. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif But on the other hand, i have also had professors that were very hard but horrible professors as well //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/mad.gif.c18f003ab0ef8a0d9c27ca78d77a6392.gif

I see people slurpin all day in class and its disgusting. I only spoke to my legal writing teacher because we had to during conferences. Just promise me you won't be the student in class who asks questions to appear smart; because it's just sad. Know your case, know the law from it, and a small analysis of why the law was made, and you will make all the impression you need.

haha, i will admit that ive done my share of question asking in college, but don't plan on it in law school. I mainly did it to get my name known in a class of 400 + people, so that I could have the professor know my name, and then parlay that into a letter of reccomendation. (which i might add, worked very well, if i didn't do this i don't know who the hell would have written my letters, because i go to a huge state school, and its just flat out impossible to establish relationships with professors unless you make yourself stand out from the crowd).

I will be starting law school in mid-august, and I am kind of scared because I have heard how tough it is compared to college. And for the type of law i am trying to get into, I need to be a top student at my school. If anyone here is currently in law school or already went, do you have any tips?
Worst time of my life. By the end of the first semester, I never wanted to practice law. I left after my 1L to get a Master's Degree, and I use that every day, making more money than lawyers in my area make. I even spent time working in law during school and as my first job after grad school, and law school was NOTHING like real-world law. NOTHING like it.

Sometimes I wish I had the JD, just for minor civil crap (landlords taking people to the cleaners, corrupt utility companies, @$4hole merchants, etc.). I might finish my JD some day, just because it is the one thing in life that I left unfinished.
