Yeah, I'm sure that's the only thing holding you back. I get it, man. I think the whole satanism thing is played out and uncool too, but that doesn't mean the people who play that type of music are talentless. Many of them are damn good at what they do...
Yes agreed, But I have a tendency to judge people based on other aspects of their life.
Eg. Death metal might be a great tattoo artist, but he could be the best artist in the world and I wouldn't go to him because he is such a douche.
I look at it as risk management, If you are going to make a dumb decision, you must have enough skills to make up for your faults.
But that doesn't change the fact that there are more talented drummers out there either.
In that workout video DM posted, I saw no musical genius, I saw a simple beat anyone could learn in 10 min. And then the goal seemed to be to alternate bass drum pedals as quickly as possible. He even had difficulty adjusting the 2 beats together, especially when slowing down.
Just my opinion but i think drummers hide in death metal bands so that they don't have to be as good. Play really fast and people will think you are cool. The cadences are littered with misplaced syncopations and inaudible notes. Which is allways ok because you are beating the drum so fast no person can distinguish the difference.
So its not that they aren't talented, just that if they are, they are wasting it.
Drummers like neil peart use every microsecond of track deliberately and artistically, genre aside, the musical genius is astounding.
