Couple things to keep in mind...
1) Parallel structure. Always make sure in your words are all in one tense, unless you are currently still doing the job. Example : I cleaned toilets, I bathed old people, etc...
2) Decide on either a skills resume or timeline resume. Both are different and get different goals accomplished in relation to the job you're trying to get and your past experiences. If you have had quite a few jobs and many accomplishments, schooling, college, etc... then use a timeline resume. If you've had only one or two jobs with not much experience, a skills resume is what you need. Google them if you need more info.
3) Spelling. Make sure you know the differences between "your", "you're", "there", "their", and "they're". Nothing worse than people who can't spell on a resume.
4) Cover letters always get your brownie points.
If you have any specific questions, feel free to ask. I could give you an example of my resume if you'd like.
