anyone ever use welding.....

thankis for all the info you guys...also check out tappin *** (guy on here) his youtube videos....his name is ChAinHanGlOw69 on youtube...watch them inorder

welding wire (if you get good quality wire) will work as well or better than standard audio power cable and most times costs alot less.

aluminum wire ratings are lower ampacity compared to the same guage copper wire but it does not get as hot as fast either. almost all new construction in homes ect have stranded aluminum transformer runs to the main breaker panel then solid copper from there.

As a car audio wholesaler, if I didnt get wire so cheap I would only use welding wire in my personal installs, my brother is a welder and I have seen how many volts and amps that, that wire carries over very long distances. far more than most car audio applications.

Yep, Arc Welding takes some serious juice.

some use it, no its not better... it has a lower strand count and is harder to work with. with the prices of Knu KLM, your better off just using it
no, my welding wire was the same price and it rapes the klm i have. they are about equally as flexible but the klm is to big for pretty much every 1/0 input and the shell is retarded hard.

this is why i got it...thanks a lot man!!!!!

Strand count doesnt mean much. The hgiher the strand count just means it will be more flexible. What really matters is the gauge of the strands. A wire with more strand count and lower gauge size could potential not be as good as say wire with lower strand count but a bigger gauge size for each strand.

go to a welding shop and you can get it really cheap. I got 1/0 flex a prene cable for like $30 for 30ft. it works just as good, if not better then my old rockford 1/0 wire.

I have to disagree, higher strand is better because there is more surface area

for the electrons to flow on, where one big fat solid wire does not.

nothing wrong with using welding cable for car audio power wire

its better than half the name brand car audio shit on the market...

check out flex orange from weldingsupply.com..... I used the 1/0 cable and it was

more flexable and had more wire in it than Stinger

i only use welding cable and that info on strand count is inaccurate.all cable is not the same.its always 100% copper which is better than cca cable.price is better too.
i notice no differance but i use 4/0 so im sure it kills ANY 1/0 cable
Where does this misconception that Car audio wire companies dont use pure copper. I dont know of any company that does not use pure oxygen free copper that is tinned unless it is alum cable. as for size of the wire, most welding cable uses the AWG standard on wire size while car audio companies have there own sizing standards. Look at Knu's wire there 1/0 is actually 2/0 in AWG while i am pretty sure that welding cable is based on AWG standards. The difference is not that big and really wont change much but if you are trying to get every bit out of the wire then it matters.
