Anyone ever try removing the lettering from their hu faceplate?

I have an Alpine CDM-7874 and it has (as many do) all kinds of stupid BS on it like "CD RECEIVER" (really?) "CD Changer Control" (that's nice) and "50watts x 4amplifier" (do we need to advertise what this thing is "pushing").

Things like this belong on the box along with all the other "features", not smatterd all over my faceplate like acne on a teenager.

How do I get this stuff off? Has anyone tried non-acetone nail polish remover? I used to use that stuff in optics to take laser etchings off of lenses without damaging the plastic/poly. I just don't know if it will work for this application, and most importantly, if it will give the screen a haze from the chemical.

Anybody tried this or something else to remove the ad's?

Thanks for your time.

I don't plan on selling it so I'll try some non-acitone on the corner or something (to test). It was under $200 new and on the used market it's probably worth about as much as a strawberry shortcake sticker cause it was nothing special to begin with.

Anybody else?

I'll post a pic or let you know it ruined the face.

Lates...

i know the sweat of your fingers is able to remove meticulously the lettering on some alpine head units buttons, expecially the Power/Source, Band and |>| (really ive seen this happening, expecially on the CDA-7995/7998, dont ask me why, but i saw many times)

i believe some sort of acid and some rinse will get it off leaving the suface beneath intact

just wondering, why u compared it to a "strawberry shortcake sticker " ? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

if the plastic is molded in the color and not painted some polishing compound may work to take off the lettering. Note: I've never tried it so it's just a thought.

My gf left just such a sticker laying in front of my monitor. In a moment of quick typing I decided that sticker was worth equal trade for my used Alpine CDM-7874.
