Well, I have been deciding on whether or not doing mobile electronics for the rest of my life and I was really considering attending Mobile Dynamics to further my education, but $6k to finish the program is quite steep. Is it really worth it? Anyone here ever attend Mobile Dynamics or any other Car audio school and pass it?

Feedback please. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

It is about as much as a 4year degree at a state school but I dunno if those jobs start in the 40s. But atleast you won't hate your job (like me) and work at Lowe's PT just because you hate your other one.

I am a cost analyst BTW.

was it worth it? What kind of job did you get and how is the pay?
to me it was worth it, but to others it may not. i have an installing job at a high end shop and the pay is good.

look in to the snake pit. the school can be broken down in to different courses/classes you can attend so you dont have to do the whole thing, and wont cost as much, may be somthing to look in too.

I went to Mobile Dynamics in Toronto...the Only nationally accredited school in North America (yea...good selling point.... BULLCRAP!!)

It depends on your experience level now man... If you have AIM, hit me up in PM and ill give you my SN and tell you about my experience...lets just say ive been to now 5 car audio shops in the last 1 1/2 yrs STILL trying to get experience...NO THANKS TO THEIR "JOB PLACEMENT" assistance *also BS

I don't go on AIM much due to my internet always disconnecting and I can never finish a chat without getting frustrated.

Explain your experiences i'm sure others on the forum would be interested also.

well...in 2 months...they try to teach you EVERYTHING!!!!

that is all

no j/k Its pretty hard to absorb all the info they try to teach you.. plus with a book for every week on the material.... I went in there never installing a HU before so it was kind of hard for me. I passed my MECP basic...but if you dont..you probably shouldnt be doing CA....Installer level starts to ask you a lot of questions about Mobile Video, and Remote starts and alarms, and relays and crossovers...its a lot harder than the first one. They try to teach you how to install a remote start with relays and alarm on a little electronic board...VEry tough for me, seeing as it was my first time ever seeing it so.....here I am a year later. still trying to learn how to do it...I have gotten my hands on remote starts a few times (prolly like 10)..but still dont know exactly what wire control what functions...dont have the wires memorized yet. i have done like 2 alarms...

BUT...since im still trying to get experience...its hard to find a shop that does custom work (most likely private) that is willing to take their time out to train me. I have called Mobile Dynamics tonnns of times asking if they know anybody in my area hiring...never gotten a Positive on it. The Head guy over there "Richard" offered my a SENIOR position in NY because he liked me when I graduated....BUT I would have had to move it NY, and its expensive to live there...and Im just thinking now...ME..being a senior... HAHA...id be fired immediately....those guys at that shop would probably...or WOULD have run circles around me.

As i said...they touch on everything...but just once....so if you have a year or 2 under your belt...go for it..but pay attention. Ill try to find a link where I posted a lot of stuff they had in their books

Edit.... Here ya go... post # 12 http://www.caraudio.com/forum/showthread.php?t=163658&highlight=mobile+dynamics

Hm, I should get a headstart and read up on some books then. I don't plan to go there anytime this year I have to save up for the fee's. I guess I'll start by ordering some books from MECP.com.

THanks for the heads up though. I kinda thought it would be rediculously hard to try to learn all that in 2 months, but being in Arizona where there is absolutely nothing to do because it is super hot and you would never want to leave your house. I figured it wouldn't be too hard to stay inside to study.

Forgot to ask, do you have any old books you would like to sell me? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eyebrow.gif.fe2c18d8720fe8c7eaed347b21ea05a5.gif

I mean the program isnt that hard to pass. If you have 1-2 years of experience you should graduate with anything less than a B....its just getting the most out of everything they teach you when you leave....I mean yea, I still have all the books...but man....you saw those equations....who the hell uses those!!! but I guess that is "doing it right".

How old are you?? Because the AZ campus....is right down the street from ASU, and like 2 miles away from the University of Phoenix....so ladies are-a-flowin!!

also...bring you car!. I live in Chicago...brought my car to Toronto...was a good decision...despite the 12hr drive home....half of it in a blizzard. But you do vehicle tear down days, and install alarm in your car. You get free days to do whatever the helk you want..... but you could honestly probably take the MECP basic test (they do have pre-tests for free online if you search for them...mecp website might even have them) and pass with no problem...its pretty easy.

EDIT: its illegal to sell the books. Plus I still refer back to them every now and then. Every single page says.. COPYWRITE...but I might be able to send you some pics of the index's just so you know what you'd be learning

lol illegal to sell the books? Why? oh well I'll order some off of MECP.

I tried takign the test I passed one part of it and failed the other part. I forgot I took it about a month ago.

yea those equations are //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif

Reading your post made me want to start fabricating. I was already thinking of making kicks but now I'm leaning towards door pods. Have you had any luck or even tried to do it yet?

I built my kicks...its was kinda tough the first time...just because I dont have an air staple gun to staple the fabric...and I wasnt to confident on wrapping the fabric, but it worked out..had a few wrinkles but..... The hardest part was making the baffles and positioning them..had some help with that from a friend. He had a 2 part glue......Ya know how you have to hold up the baffle with some little pieces of wood......well he'd hold the baffle where we wanted it....cut the supports....place them....put this liquid at the joint, then sprayed some kind of hardener on it...and literally within 10 seconds its dry....VERY convenient
