i've been accepted to Universal Technical Institute, and will be attending there in January the Philly campus to be exact.

Taking the 1 year automotive technology program, then either the Audi or Porsche factory certification program.

anyone here attend? or know someone that does?

im going out there in 2 weeks to have a look around campus and finalize everything. im stoked //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

I went to UTI but not for the automotive course. I was at the Phoenix campus though. No offense to anyone who lives there but I hated that place.

my shop teacher said that UTI sucked for automotive. most stuff they teach we already learn.

i already know my way around cars pretty good, so the auto tech program should be pretty easy anyways.

sucks that you have to take it in order to do a factory elective program though //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

but..

school > working for just enough moniez to pay my bills

I was going to go there, but a friend went there and told me the real story about their programs tht "anyone" can get into....

G/l trying to get into the audi/porsche programs, they are next to impossible to get into.. The Porsche program accepts 2 students per year nationally to their program. BMW + Audi each accept 5 each nationally per year. Unless u are absolute top of the class and are miles ahead of everyone else in ur class u prolli wont get in.

Just filling u in, and i know more than 1 person tht graduated from UTI and went on to do oil changes + simple fixes making like $8-$10 an hr.. Not everyone walks out of there and makes like 30-40grand a year like they say you will.

that's true of any school though.. the simple saying, "you get what you give"

most people go to school and don't even use their degree's anyways.

im passionate about european cars, already work with them daily, and know a good deal about them, im pretty much just going there for the "certification" so i have good chance snagging a tech job at a dealer.

love working on cars, it's always been my thing. and it's what i want to do. can't see myself not being at the top of the class and doing extremely well

my friend went to one of those....cant remember which

but he got a job at BMW, pay was good but he said it got pretty boring.

He is now working at a 4 wheel drive / off road shop, makes much more money and get to do fun customization instead of boring oil change/ alternator swaps

id recommend doin a diesel tech, more money in that field.

i went for the auto body in houston,tx, learned a bunch... but other than for personal projects now its pretty much worthless. There was no money in it, and now i work in the oil field and make twice what i was prepping on cars. On top of that the certs i got, no one really cared about...

yeah theres not much money in body work unless you're doing custom work/working for a high volume shop.

the new tech that i work with went to uti to get his VW certification, he started two days ago on a 60k salary. mind you it is mostly custom work, and not so much "service"

i talked to my work about me leaving for school, if i come back audi certified, they said i can expect similar salary, and more if i go back for master certification.

stoked //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

a friend of mine attending there and was accepted into the audi program. he is very good at what he does. i believe he is making 6 figures now working for audi and he absolutely loves working there.

imo its a great school

another one of my friends also went there but is not as good as other friend but was accepted in to the toyota program and is now done, but he just works at walmart now //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

I loved working on my own cars and had plans of attending UTI out here in New England but wanted to make sure I absolutely liked the field so I got a job as a basic just like maintenance tech for 6 months. I made decent money but hated the work. Being covered in shit for 10+ hours a day sucked penis.

I'd say make sure your making the right choice man. And I wouldn't go if your main reason is to get into one of the manufacturer's programs as previosly stated.

My best freind went to UTI about 5 years and has been working for VW ever since, he does say that working at the dealership is pretty boring, I've never really asked him how much he makes though.

I've heard good things about UTI, but the Audi, Porsche, BMW, and especially the Mercedes Step program are pretty competitive. Make sure you're at the top of your class and you get in with your professors! Once you're in one of those programs it's smooth sailing.
