Because they are idiots. I'm 22 & own several firearms, all of which were bought new & registered. Glock 27, S&W 442, S&W BodyGuard .338, & a Mossberg 500. Having unregistered firearms makes them feel cool & badass, it also helps their ego.

The US government will never, may I reiterate, never take away the right to bear arms. However, they will lock you up in a federal prison if they find you in possesion of illegal (unregistered) firearms.
