Anyone actually benched Hifonics amps?

We all know that most Hifonics dont' do rated power...usually around 70-80% of rated.

However, has anyone actually benched these amps or know exactly what to expect out of them? All iv'e seen are "guesses" as to what they do.

Specifically, I have a BXI2006d and want to know what I can get out of it. I set the gains for around 1600, but was wondering if I could get a bit more.

I remember seeing several people bench them, and on a good electrical, they all made rated, or at least within 20-30 watts of rated.

I don't remember where it was, but I do remember seeing that. If you have a good electrical to keep it going at a stable voltage, then I'd say you could easily go to 1800, 1900 or so.

My experience with the older ones, haven't worked on many 08 or 10 models, but with those older ones, they would make rated power, but the output was a square wave on the scope, did not sound good. Back them down to 70-80% of rated power and the clipping wasn't near as bad and it sounded a whole lot better.

You guys with DMM's and clamps only, not using a scope, cannot get accurate power measurements because you can't see the clipping. Granted the clipping will be different with different loads, I basically came to the conclusion that they made 70-80% of usable rated power. These are the Brutus line and similar models I am speaking of.

The larger amps, XX, XXV etc are a WHOLE different ballgame. Most of them make rated power plus, granted it's at 14.4V.

Anything other than a Sine-Wave is not musical output, so yes. No clipping is what sounds good and accurate, THD numbers are meh at best. It's bass. You really can't tell a whole lot of difference in bass with low or high THD (to a point, of course), but clipping definately. Makes that farting sound you hear in your subs when you turn the volume up too high and your amp/electrical runs out of steam, not desirable. I don't have anything here to measure THD numbers, but the fact is that THD is really not a concern with most modern amps that use feedback circuits, especially for bass. Only thing you need to worry about is clipping. Using an amplifier with more power than you need will help prevent that, just don't turn it up too high and be aware that if you are pushing the power handling of your subs beyond their limits, an amplifier with way more power than you need, even turned down, the peaks in some musical content may be destructive to your subs.
