Anyone a J Dilla fan?

I just downloaded the late J Dilla's Cd the shining and it's awesome. Thing is, I assumed I would hear him rapping over the beats, but instead it seems to be his beats other people are rapping over. And btw, his taste in production seems to have been on point.
