So before I installed my subs a while ago, I noticed that the stock speakers have a good kick to them. Is it possible the car has a built in amp?

This is in a 98 tahoe, and i realized this when I switched the entire set of speakers with a 96 yukon, the tahoe with the yukons speakers sounded the same, but the yukon with the tahoes speakers sounded very........"meh"

my 97 was the same way but no there probably isnt an amp in there

easy way to find out is pull your deck out and see if there are any extra wires other than

power, ground, & speakers

there should be 10 wires coming to the deck

x2 what bones said, take a look at the wiring and see if anything points to an amp being hooked up somewhere

i have 98 tahoe and no they arent ampedthere are differences in the speakers put in depending on whether you have 2 or 4 door.
