anybody install car audio as a dayjob?

what do you guys think are the chances of a place hiring a 17 year old for this type of job, or any job in a audio shop? not good? been hesitant to aask for app just because of age

I just do it on the side, for extra cash.
yup, same here.

i landed a job doing a complete install on a G35 coupe this week. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

i wouldn't mind doing as a full time job, but only for an extended period of time. yes, it can be alot of work at times and you have to deal with alot of BS but for me atleast.. its something i like doing.

Too much labor IMO... there's jobs out there that will pay more for less work..
Labor IMO is a good thing.I could NEVER sit at a desk, or in a cubical all day doing work on the computer or drawing shit out.I think it'd drive me crazy. No matter the amount I was getting paid.

TRUTH!

i worked an office job for 2 years and it drove me nuts.

more labor. the more i make. im hitting the dealerships. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Yes sir.

And on top of that, I just met a shop owner who does paint on all the donks and glasshouse (jacked up cars with 22+ wheels), and doesn't do interior.

When the customers spend $6k on paint and they have stock interior, well thats when I can charge them to remedy that.

I'll make fun of their rides on the side, AFTER they pay me.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

insatlling for a living is great fun, but there are ZERO benefits as far as insurance and retirement @ the majority of places.

dealer cost is a big bonus, and every shop ive ever worked @ let us work on our own rides when we were not busy. that, or watch jerry springer:)

i just hated retail hours. every saturday, worked til 6pm every day, etc...

but, it was alot of fun for the years i did it:)

right now i make and install countertops. alot of cash flow going through that place and im not gettin much of it all. im talkin a couple grand a day, anyways i like doing the work but the pay is so measly. i figure i could try to get into car audio ive always enjoyed it and i want to make fiberglass enclosures!

I install for a local shop part time. Its decent but like AZBASS said, it gets old real quick. Working in shitty cars and I despise Alarms with Remote Start/Keyless entry. Did one on a kia yesterday, and I never will work on one of those cars again. I had to call several different places to get the wiring schematic, even the most notable places like DEI's Directwire, and METRA couldnt give me what I needed. So basically if you are an installer its by no means a cake walk, but like others have said there are perks.
