i got a 97 lesabre that has the antenna in the back window with the defroster. basically the antenna wire goes from the radio to a box on the c piller the regular wres run to the grid on the window. i get a lot of static on FM and absolutely nothing on AM. i have replaced the box and it didnt help. the rear defroster works so i cant figure this out. any ideas

im down to just put an external antenna on it but i want a low profile on bu cant find one. i mean like the satellite radi antennas, any ideas

how bad is the fm signal? is it an aftermarket radio, i notice that most aftermarket radios have crappy reception
you can try using this

http://www.crutchfield.com/p_12044UA60/FM-Signal-Amplifier.html?search=fm+booster&tp=3351&tab=detailed_info

ive used these before and it works pretty well
Reading the reviews it looks like the newer models went down on quality.....

it works, all cars are different though, you could put a radio in one car and have great reception, and put it in another and have crappy reception, now granted your not going to be able to listen to every single radio station in the surrounding states, but ones that are in his area that he can normally get will most likley come in, id say try this before you go replacing with a mast

btw i used to work at wal mart

i saw one somewhere that you can mount under the headliner at the windshield. no mast outside.
any info?

the reviews ****. i tried with my factory radio and it was the same

You can get an antenna that is amplified and works in the headliner...and has good reception....

do u have an aftermarket radio? if so if the antenna module actually turning on
the module turns the defrost on. it doesnt seem to change when the antenna is unplugged from the box but i could be wrong, and it is an aftermarket radio

odds are there is some sort of an antenna booster somewhere if its built into real glass, atleast this is how most gm's are set up

ok pulled ur diagram up

the dark green wire at the module is the antenna enable signal, check and see if its getting any power odds are it should be getting 12volts when the radio is turned on

it will be a darkgreen wire at the oem harness behind the radio it may or may not match up to a plug on ur aftermarket gm harness, odds are it goes to a blue wire on ur gm harness labele antenna and its prly not hooked up. it needs to be hooked up to the remote/antenna wire on ur aftermarket radio. odds are this is ur issue

there are multiple darkgreen wires it should be between a yellow and grey wire

You could always test and see if its the antenna cable. Go to walmart buy a cheap mast. Take your radio out still hooked up. Plug that new mast in see if you get better signal. Another thing is to test that grid ont he back window make sure its all good. Take a testing light. And probe each line on the grid making sure each one lights up. Possible there are breaks in the grid. Also not sure on this but I dont think the antenna uses the entire grid on the back window mabye just a few lines on the top.
