but why

Well Here is the issue. SE's don't seem to like higher tuning. Honestly I really think they are a sealed woofer only (the newer ones are single soft spiders) But they will work ported in low tuned box. I like to do efficient designs. I have 8 in a wall. I tune to 32hz sound clean and loud but too low for my taste and not efficient enough. I raise the tuning and does seem to increase the efficiency a little but not near typical what I would see in most woofers with that much of a tuning increase and my SQ goes to BOOTAY. I think it has to do with its soft suspension . Well earlier last year I had 9 pioneers in my dakota in a massive 4th order BP. Sounded great but they clanked (thought it was box)Anyways bought a mountaineer and switched equipment over and turned out a few of the spiders had popped off the subs. Already was doing the mountaineer so went through with it. Kept upping power so switched to SE's. Well with less power they metered better with lower tune vs higher tune. now I haven't had it remetered with the higher tune ports with the higher power. But could be smiliar. But does sound a little louder with the higher tune in but BOOTAY SQ. Then I thought... Wait I have that 4th order laying around and typically really soft suspension subs sound really good 4th order. And typically ported is louder than 4th order but on certain subs 4th order tends to be louder and for sure cleaner. so since I have it laying around anyways figured hell might give it a try got another se on the way

it should be as loud at every low frequency as a usual ported box is around tuning
Actually I would tune higher for efficiency (around 48 to 50hz) but should roll down very nicely and be clean and hopefully louder than the typical ported box for an se

48 or 50? Isn't that a little high?
Definitely not. From my experience with 4th orders....... They seem to play backwards from the tune very nicely but above the tune the roll off is VERY sharp. so if you tune to 40hz for example. Your 45 will be down a LOT with most 4th orders.
