Any television/cable pro's out there?

Hey, my parents just went out a few months back and we got a 55" Sony flat screen, all that jazz, whatever.. and the salesman out at the shop (REX's TVs and Appliances) was talkin to us about how we can program something with the tv/cable to pick up neighbors PPVs, and programs that they had ordered..

This to me sounds funny, but was trying to explain it to us but I didn't understand at all, and they are closed right now, so I can't just go out there. Anyone ever heard of this?

OH yea.. and a guy down the street from me, picked up some **** one night on accident on a channel he never even knew he had.. and was talkin about it to, but wasn't sure about the whole "programming" thing, he just fell on the channel..

I have installed DTV for a while now and never heard of such a thing. I do not see how this would be possible. I think the salesman, was just trying to sound like he knew something to make the sale.

think about it. If you have DirecTV or Dish Nework, you must have a box to get the programming, same with cable to get PPV. If you do not have the box and that signal isn't sent to the certain receiver, then you will not get that signal.

IMO, he's FULL OF CRAP, but, i'm not a pro, just certified sat. installer

that will give you reg. cable, but not the digital cable from the cable companies

will not work with sat., unless you have a box.

T-ing from the pole definitely will not work unless your neighbor has a digital package in his plan. If the TV you are purchasing has a digital QAM tuner, you can recieve digital programming from just the line with no box. However, you cannot recieve premium channels or PPV without a convertor box because those services are addressable. This means that the main office controls the signal. Essentially you can get basic cable from tying into your neighbors line. I wouldn't recommend it though because you will get caught. I work for Comcast and see it all of the time.

yea im not even thinkin about doing ANYTHING with stealing the cable by running a new line or anything, just seeing if anyone has heard of the thing the guy was talkin about

oh, and I would have went out there today but my eyes are dialated (diabetic eye exam) and can't see to drive.. at least not to where im comfortable in the 4in of snow out there..

If you do a channel scan for digital channels, programs your neighbors have ordered may show up.
