I just switched out my Hifonics Bx1500d with a Orion 1200d. And I noticed something wierd. When the bass hits now It sounds, well good. Even in my ported box the bass hits are very accurate. Before they kind of blendid together a bit. Now the bass will hit and almost stop flat before the next bass note starts. I listened to some Tool with very fast bass notes and they just played extremelly fast and hard.

With the Hifonics amp it was accurate just not as crisp. Can any one explain why the difference between the amps??? Could it be the higher distortion levels on the Hifonics amp???

Oh and it tingles my neck more now //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif

Just wondering if anyone noticed similar changes when switching 2 amps.

Thanks.

im subscribing just cause i wanna hear the interesting answers from people...

my guess would be that the orion does more power, likewise has more headroom at lower power, dampening factor(duh)(dont know actual ratings, but regaurdless willing to guess orion has a better rating), and the overall quality of the amp.

othersiwe, im prepared for the "1 watt = 1 watt" argument, and all power is the same arguement... and brand favoritism... and, of course, placebo effect...

these are all my guesses though, i just wanna see others responses //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I think power remained the same. The Hifonics was supposed to put out around, what 1300. And The orion 1200. Maybe around 1300 if it is a bit under rated.

So I don't think power was the cause. It's wierd having this type of accuracy in the ported box. I'm used to a little more boom.

Was just wondering if there was anyone on this forum that could describe the cause of this. Without bringing an endless argument...

frequency response is diffrent

BX=20-250hz

Orion=20-500hz

Signal to noise ratio

BX=95

orion=80

also orion has a Equalization Circuit and the BX doesn't.

just better quality overall.

Little things like this that best buy doesnt know. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif

THD???http://www.bcae1.com/thd.htm

edit nope.

orions's is higher actually

.08%(hifonics) - .09%(orion)

Go look at the bench test sticky, and look at the Hifonic's bench test. "Rated" THD is one thing; actual THD is another. The Hifonics tested at 1360w @ 10% THD+N. The Orion won't be anywhere near that amount of distortion.

BTW Trigger, weren't you the one always talkin' about how great of a value that Hifonics was?? Did this change your mind any //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

I experienced the exact same thing switching from a Hifonics to a PG Tantrum 1200.1... the power output wasn't much greater, but all my overhang problems went away. I thought it was my sub's fault, but the second the power came from the PG... my sub sounded completely different, much tighter and more accurate.

Could it be a better amp that has better SQ ? I have had the same issue but back words.

I was running a PG amp that was putting about 300wrms out to 2 subs then I got a Kicker amp that was putting out 400wrms to the same 2 subs. There was a big differance in SQ the PG amp was better then the Kicker. Some amps do put out cleaner sound and control the music better then others.
