ANY MECHANICS? car issue...

i have a 1998 Altima, Automatic *****. Having a problem when the car is cold. Its slipping, and seems to not want to pick up, but kicks out of it slowly and gets going. But once i come up to a stop the car sputters and dies (like in a manual when coming up to a stop and not pressing on the clutch) very similar to that. Once car is at operating temperature everything is fine. I got a check engine light code that came up, one for an auto ***** speed 1 malfunction and other for speed 2 malfunction. Any ideas?

Have you been driving it like your stole it?

and how much do you know about cars? like if I told you to got pull the spark plugs and tell me what they look like, would you know what to do?

I beat on it here and there. And yes, i know a good amount about cars. Working on my degree, but havent taken the ****** class yet so im clueless on that part

Those codes are for your speed sensors. I think one for input and one for output. Replace those and see what happens. You have to replace/fix the known problems (check engine light) before moving on to something else. If it is the sensors I mentioned, then it makes sense as to why your car is driving like that. Could be bad/corroded grounds going to the sensors too. Could be the wiring harness going to the sensors.

iawtp.

Sounds like we are in the same boat on knowlage. I honestly cant say that a transmition is in no way controlling the engine, exept for maby the kickdown cable it that part isnt comp. controlled. I would personally start checking your basics for a misfire. do you know how to do the misfire test by removing the spark plug cableswhile the engine is running?

yeah i do. But i know for a fact its not a misfire. Again, operating temperature everythings perfectly fine. Like OSL is right, i should check that out first and go from there. Initially i thought it was the torque converter locking up on me when coming to a stop, but then those codes came up. So i guess i should look into the solenoids first and go from there

yup input and output speed sensors. it sounds like an electronically controlled *****. they use the 2 speed sensors to manipulate the hydraulic fluid pressure when applying the clutches for each gear.

I would deff replace both of those sensors, should be screwed into the ***** case. Also I would buy a ***** filter kit/gasket and change the fluid. if it smells burnt and brown/black then your in trouble.
